In my body of work, I explore the ongoing problems and current events around the world, especially in the U.S. and China. What are some major problems that I could make more relatable through art? I hope to share some of my own beliefs and take on certain events as a Chinese immigrant who is influenced by both cultures. Images 1-2 explore general problems that apply to many different groups. I was experimenting with a style that leans towards posters in images 1-2, while the rest of my portfolio focuses on telling stories. Images 3 addresses a recent event of cyberbullying which took place in Korea. In images 4 and 5, I focused on telling stories/problems going on in China and shared my perspective as someone from mainland China. Image 6 explores the topic of Australian wildfire, which affected my cousin who currently lives in Australia. For the remainder of my portfolio, I focused on telling stories and informing people of my view on the global pandemic—COVID-19. As someone who is Chinese living in the U.S., I have read and heard stories from different perspectives, so I took my experiences interacting with both western and eastern media and incorporated them into my artworks.
